V0801 RCVS Membership Examinations: Production (Farm) Animal Studies Course

Aims and objectives:
The aim of the course is to highlight important information and essential skills that are frequently used in Production (Farm) Animal Practice. This course is designed to assist veterinarians in their preparation for the Production Animal Studies section of the RCVS Membership Examinations.

Who is this course for: Veterinarians sitting the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons’ Membership Examinations. We provided training for 21 students sitting the RCVS Membership Examinations last year.

Course Tutor
Dr Peter Cockcroft MA MSc VetMB DCHP DipECBHM DVM&S MRCVS MILT

Peter is a veterinarian and has been a Senior Lecturer in Farm Animal Medicine at the Cambridge Veterinary School for 11 years teaching all aspects of farm animal studies. He has spent 7 years working in farm animal private practice in the UK. He is a member of the Institute for Learning and Teaching. He has a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine and Surgery.

He has a RCVS Diploma in Cattle Health and Production and is also a Diplomate of the European College of Bovine Health Management. He is a RCVS Specialist (Dairy Cattle) and a European Veterinary Specialist in Bovine Health. Peter has written 3 books, ‘Clinical Examination of Farm Animals’, ‘Handbook of Pig Medicine’ and ‘Evidence-based Veterinary Medicine’. He has 33 scientific publications. Peter has been Chairman of Examiners (final veterinary examinations) for 3 years at the Cambridge Veterinary School

Course content

 


 

The Production (Farm) Animal Studies Course covers cattle, sheep and pigs. The following subject areas will be covered:

                  ·        Medicine

·        Surgery (and anaesthesia)

·        Obstetrics

·        Fertility.

This course will focus on common and important conditions at an individual, group and herd level. A large slide collection will be used along with a case based approach to ensure the information is exciting, interesting and relevant.  Clinical examination, differential diagnosis and further investigations will be covered in detail for each species
